since there's a chance if could make it more difficult for them to develop their own identity/personality if the host sees them as that character and (even unintentionally) expects them to act like that character

There aren't really rules beyond moral conduct and caution, I suppose-- nothing stopping you from forcing your tulpa to be a huge slug monster, beyond your own moral compass and what the tulpa wants

how far into creating a tulpa should I work on Narration?

i'd say there is no "too early" for narration :D

while narrating, i've gotten into the habit of saying "we", as in, "we're going to the store and coming back". It makes sense to me since my tulpa is, in my head, and therefore going with me, but i'm wondering if it doesn't separate me from my tulpa well enough. Or if it matters at all.

if you're worried about your tulpa being subsumed back into you, as far as i know that process requires actual effort to be put into it

I often use we. I consider us as two different people.

I like to say we a lot, but I don't ever do so out of consideration for any sense of there being "many people". I like to sound royal.
